Danny worked alongside his father Lars Leksell and brother Larry Leksell to build the foundation of Elekta. He has played a paramount role in shaping radiosurgery into what it is today.
He also founded and was the chairman of the Leksell Gamma Knife Society for 30 years until his retirement in 2019. During his insightful leadership, encouraging collaboration between Gamma Knife practitioners worldwide, the awareness and acceptance of intracranial radiosurgery increased significantly and more than 1.5 million patients have received treatment globally. Today, the Society has over 2000 members and is still dominating the radiosurgery literature globally.
Danny was a true visionary and believer. He will be missed by all his friends at the Leksell Gamma Knife Society, Elekta, and within the broader medical community where he was respected as one of the pioneers behind the Leksell Stereotactic System and the Leksell Gamma Knife.
