Leksell Gamma Knife® Society (LGKS) is committed to protecting your privacy by maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of your personal data. We developed this notice to help you understand the types of personal data we collect, how we use your personal data, with whom we share your personal data and how we protect your personal data. This notice also provides other useful information regarding the data we collect and how we use cookies. LGKS will only process your personal data if it is necessary in order for us to:

  • Fulfill a contract with you or a relevant party;
  • Comply with our legal obligations; or
  • If you give your consent

This Privacy Notice applies to the personal data we obtain through LGKS’ online properties, including website, mobile applications, social media pages and email programs that reference this Privacy Notice (“Online Channels”). This Privacy Notice also references offline data collection in connection with marketing, partner and supplier engagement ("Offline Channels") and third-party sources, including ad networks (collectively, the "Channels"). This Privacy Notice describes the types of personal data we obtain through the Channels, how we may use that personal data, with whom we may share it, and how you may exercise your rights regarding our processing of the data. The Privacy Notice also describes the measures we take to safeguard the personal data we obtain and how you can contact us about our privacy practices. The Online Channels may provide links to other third-party websites and features, or contain third-party cookies, that are not owned or controlled by LGKS.

LGKS websites

Some of our services do not require any form of registration, allowing you to visit our site without telling us who you are. Details of the data that we gather as standard when you access the website is described below. However, some services require you to provide us with Personal Data. In these situations, if you choose to withhold any Personal Data requested by us, it may not be possible for you to gain access to certain parts of the site and for us to respond to your query. When you register on the LGKS website, there will be detailed information about how your data is processed in connection to your registration. Like most website operators, LGKS collects non-personally-identifying data of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. LGKS’ purpose in collecting non-personally identifying data is to better understand how our visitors use our websites. Our website also collects potentially personally-identifying data including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. LGKS does not use such data to identify its visitors, however, and does not disclose such data, other than under the same circumstances described in this Privacy Notice.

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. LGKS uses cookies and tracking pixels to help identify and track visitors, their usage of our websites, and their website access preferences. The cookies we use identify users merely as a number with a de-identified Cookie ID. We review this data in the aggregate to understand how different groups of visitors, for instance all the visitors from a particular country, are navigating the site and what information is of the highest interest to the largest number of users in that group. If you are uncomfortable regarding cookies use, please keep in mind you can disable cookies on your computer by changing the settings in the preferences or options menu in your browser. However, if your browser does not accept cookies you may not be able to access or use all features of that website.

Third-party services

We also use third-party services in connection with the Online Channels. Our primary third-party services are listed below. These service providers use cookies and similar technologies to collect data (such as IP addresses) to evaluate the use of and interaction with LGKS’ Online Channels. You can learn more about each provider’s privacy policies by visiting their websites:

Links to other websites

Our websites may contain links to other websites. We have no influence on the compliance or non-compliance of the operators of these sites with the data protection provisions. Please note that providing personal data to LGKS is voluntary on your part. If you choose not to provide us certain data, you may not be able to access certain features of our Online Channels.

Personal data obtained by LGKS

Though LGKS’ Channels are primarily intended to capture information at the Customer (Company/Account) level, we may obtain personal data of individuals who work at those companies in the process. The types of personal data we may obtain include:

  • Contact information (such as name, phone and fax number, email and postal address) for you or for others (e.g., principals in your business) – note that this contact information is typically tied to your employer, meaning LGKS is primarily obtaining work email and postal addresses, not personal;
  • Information used to create your online account for our web portal that requires a dedicated user login (such as username and password);
  • Role-based information (such as job title/position and/or expressed products/solutions);
  • Location data (such as data derived from your IP address, country and zip code);
  • Clickstream data and other information about your online activities, including across the Online Channels and third-party websites, that we obtain through the use of cookies and similar technologies;
  • Other personal data contained in content you submit to us through completing web forms, filling out online surveys

How LGKS uses personal data provided by you

We may use this information to:

  • Communicate about and administer our services, events, programs and promotions (such as by sending newsletter and other marketing communications);
  • Conduct and facilitate surveys,
  • Provide customer support;
  • Process, evaluate and respond to requests and inquiries
  • Conduct investigations and comply with and enforce applicable legal requirements, relevant industry standards, contractual obligations and our policies and terms (such as this Privacy Policy and other Online Channels terms of use); and
  • Maintain and enhance the safety and security of our services, Online Channels, network services and information resources

We may combine personal data we obtain through Online Channels with information we obtain through Offline Channels, as well as other information, for the purposes described above. We may anonymize or aggregate personal data and use it for the purposes described above and for other purposes to the extent permitted by applicable law. We also may use personal data for additional purposes that we identify at the time of collection. We will obtain your consent for these additional uses to the extent required by applicable law. Where required by applicable law, we will obtain your consent for the processing of your personal data for direct marketing purposes.

How we share your personal data

As a global organization, data we collect may be transferred internationally throughout LGKS’ organization for the purposes described in this Privacy Notice. LGKS will not sell or otherwise disclose personal data about you except as described here or at the time of collection. There will be other times when we need to share data, for example, in the case of an event where we need to provide our caterer with meal preference information. However, before you submit any data, we will notify you as to why we are asking for specific data and it is completely up to you whether or not you want to provide it. We may share personal data with service providers we have retained to perform services on our behalf (such as payment processing, order fulfillment, customer support and data analytics). These service providers are contractually required to safeguard the data provided to them and are restricted from using or disclosing such data except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or to comply with legal requirements.

How we protect your personal data

To ensure the security and confidentiality of Personal Data that we collect online, we use data networks protected, inter alia, by industry standard firewall and password protection. In the course of handling your Personal Data, we take measures reasonably designed to protect that information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. LGKS takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying data.

Your email communication preferences

LGKS uses email as a primary communications channel to keep our customers informed of upcoming events, educational opportunities and general news. To update your preferences, and/or further specify the types of communications you wish to receive from LGKS, please do so via the email preferences link included in our email correspondence. LGKS contacts who choose to unsubscribe from LGKS emails will immediately be placed on a “do not email” list. However, if that contact is part of an active Customer/Account, their data will be retained throughout the life of the customer agreement.

Your rights

You have the right to know whether LGKS holds data about you and, if we do, to have access to that data and require it to be corrected if it is inaccurate. You also have the right to have your personal data erased or blocked if any of the processing of it is in violation with the applicable privacy legislation. You also have the right to lodge any complaints you may have regarding LGKS’ processing of your personal data to a supervisory authority.

Changes to our policy

This Privacy Notice may be updated periodically and without prior notice to you to reflect changes in our information practices. We will indicate at the top of this Privacy Notice when it was most recently updated.
